Why Student Health Matters
Why does student health matter? Because healthy students are better learners!
With the rising number of children being affected by diseases and health concerns, such as diabetes and obesity/overweight among other health concerns, child/adolescent health has become a major issue in our society. Since children spend most of their time in school, schools have become critical places to address health-related issues and needs.
Untreated health conditions and unhealthy behaviors contribute to poor academic performance including absenteeism, inattentiveness, discipline problems, failing grades, and a lack of school connectedness.
However, school health initiatives can have a positive impact on academic achievement and student health outcomes. You can find more information about the connection between student health and academic achievement in our data section.
