Coordinated School Health Forum - March 30, 2009

Stakeholders hosted its 14th Collaborative Forum on Monday March 30, 2009. The forum focused on using the coordinated school health model as a means for education reform.

The featured speaker was Dr. Patrick Cooper, CEO of the Early Childhood and Family Learning Foundation in New Orleans. The goals of the Foundation include establishing community centers in the most economically depressed and crime-ridden neighborhoods of New Orleans. These centers will establish universal, quality early child care programs in the neighborhoods and universal, quality coordinated school health programs in the schools of that neighborhood while providing a one-stop health, social service, and education opportunity for the community.

Just prior to the New Orleans appointment, Dr. Cooper served as Superintendent of Schools in McComb, Mississippi. While in McComb, Dr. Cooper implemented a longitudinal study on coordinated school health that resulted in improvements in academic achievement, teacher productivity, and attendance and discipline rates among other issues.

Below is Dr. Cooper's presentation and an article on Dr. Cooper's work in McComb.
